Ex-Rangers defender Alan Hutton believes Fulham is an ideal destination for Super Eagles central defender Calvin Bassey, as the Nigerian player undergoes a routine medical before finalizing the move.
While Brighton & Hove also expressed interest in Bassey, Fulham acted swiftly, securing a deal with Ajax Amsterdam and convincing the player to agree to personal terms.
Having become the most expensive Nigerian defender in history with his transfer to Ajax for 23 million euros, Bassey's stint in Amsterdam didn't go as planned, and he lost his starting position after the departure of Alfred Schreuder, the manager who initially recommended him.
Hutton expressed his thoughts, saying, "I thought Ajax would have been a good place for him to learn, it is very technical and I think that was the area of his game that he needed to brush up on. Going somewhere like Fulham, I think he would fit in no problem. It is probably the next level for him to play in the Premier League, and it is likely something he would love to do."
As Bassey's transfer to Fulham nears completion, he is set to join Chelsea youth product Ola Aina as the second Super Eagles defender returning to England this summer, after Aina's recent move to Nottingham Forest on a free transfer.
