Ex-Man Utd scout: Rangers open to offers for Dessers

Posted : 29 January 2025

Scottish Premiership club Rangers are reportedly open to offers for striker Cyriel Dessers, as they consider selling him if a suitable bid arrives. Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has suggested that the club is willing to offload the Nigerian forward for the right price.

Dessers has struggled with consistency this season, managing just eight goals in 21 league appearances. His inability to convert chances regularly has raised concerns among both the coaching staff and supporters.

Recently, the 30-year-old has lost his starting spot to Hamza Igamane, further diminishing his influence in the squad. His difficulty in holding up play and linking attacks has also been a source of frustration for the club’s fans.

Under manager Philippe Clement, Dessers’ role has become less significant, and there is growing speculation that Rangers could allow him to leave before the transfer window closes on February 3.

Rangers initially paid £4.5 million for Dessers, and if they receive an offer that ensures a profit or at least recoups their investment, they are likely to sanction his departure. The club appears keen to make a financially beneficial decision regarding his future.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mick Brown acknowledged Dessers’ inconsistency, stating that while the striker has shown glimpses of quality, his frequent missed opportunities have been a major talking point among fans. Brown described Dessers as an enigma—capable of scoring important goals but not consistently enough to solidify his place.

With Rangers eager to strengthen their squad and remove uncertainties, Dessers’ future remains unclear. If a reasonable offer arrives before the deadline, the Scottish giants may well decide to part ways with the Nigerian forward.
