Neil Lennon, former Manchester City midfielder and Celtic coach, has expressed his belief that Rangers made a wise move by acquiring Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers from Cremonese, considering it a good piece of business.
Dessers, a 28-year-old forward, recently completed a transfer to Rangers, the former champions of the Scottish Premiership, in a deal worth €5 million.
The Nigerian joined the club after a disappointing season with Cremonese in Serie A, where he was unable to help them avoid relegation, despite scoring seven goals in 32 appearances.
Rangers had experienced a loss of attacking firepower during the summer transfer window, with their first-choice striker Alfredo Morelos departing, making Dessers' arrival crucial for the team's upcoming season.
Throughout his nine-year career, Dessers has gained considerable experience, having played for eight clubs prior to joining Rangers, making them his ninth club.
Former Manchester City player Lennon, who also served as a coach for Celtic, has commended Rangers for their decision to bring in Dessers, speaking highly of the Nigerian striker.
Lennon revealed that he had closely followed Dessers during his time at Heracles, where he emerged as the top goalscorer in the Dutch league for that season.
Lennon described Dessers as a physically imposing player with moments of technical brilliance, showcasing his finesse and skill on the field.
Lennon emphasized Dessers' goal-scoring ability and highlighted the €4.5 million price tag as a testament to the shrewd business conducted by Rangers.
With a good goal record and notable physical attributes, Dessers is seen as a valuable addition to the squad, fulfilling Rangers' need for a striker.
Having joined Rangers in Germany for pre-season training, Dessers is set to participate in matches against Newcastle United, Hamburger SV, Olympiakos, and Hoffenheim, preparing for the challenges that lie ahead in the upcoming season.
