Former Arsenal midfielder Kelechi Nwakali is set to start a new chapter in his career with a move to Portuguese Primeira Liga side Grupo Desportivo de Chaves.
Despite interest from Czech and Danish clubs, Nwakali is on the verge of joining Chaves after successfully completing a medical examination in Portugal.
Although Nwakali initially desired a two-year contract, he has reportedly accepted a three-year deal offered by Chaves.
The club is currently finalizing the details of the contract, and an official announcement regarding the transfer is expected on July 20.
This transfer marks a return to Portuguese football for the 25-year-old Super Eagles star, who previously represented Porto B during the 2018-2019 season.
Nwakali's tenure with Ponferradina came to an end due to their relegation to the third tier of Spanish football at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 campaign.
Notably, Nwakali will be reunited with his former Ponferradina coach, José Gomes, at Chaves, further solidifying his new venture in Portugal's top-flight league.
