Ex-Everton star lauds Dessers for key play in Rangers' win

Former Everton midfielder James McFadden lauded Cyriel Dessers for his crucial defensive role in Glasgow Rangers' 1-0 victory over Dundee United at Tannadice Park.


Though Dessers did not score, he played a key part in the match by providing the assist for the only goal. In the 7th minute, he flicked the ball to Tom Lawrence, who then scored to secure the win.


McFadden was particularly impressed by Dessers' defensive efforts, which helped Rangers maintain a clean sheet following their recent defeat to Celtic in the Old Firm Derby.


One notable moment came in the 28th minute when Dessers made a vital defensive header to preserve Rangers' lead. This intervention drew praise from McFadden during his commentary for Sky Sports.


“It was a tremendous header from Cyriel Dessers," McFadden remarked. “Considering Dundee United’s aggressive players, this was a critical play to prevent them from scoring."


McFadden highlighted how Dessers, despite being a forward, did not lose focus and made a significant defensive contribution. His intervention was deemed vital for the team's success.


According to Sofascore, Dessers had a strong defensive showing with five ground duels, winning three, and one aerial duel. He also made one clearance. This performance contrasts with his previous season, where he did not score until the sixth matchday.
