Former Besiktas midfielder Sinan Engin has highlighted Yunus Akgun as Galatasaray's most crucial player, surpassing Victor Osimhen in importance.
Akgun was a key performer in Galatasaray's 4-3 victory over Trabzonspor in the Trendyol Süper Lig at RAMS Park on Monday. He scored one goal and provided an assist, helping maintain their undefeated start to the season. Over 22 games, he has accumulated nine goals and four assists.
Osimhen, despite not scoring against Trabzonspor, continues to play an important role for the team. Recovering from an injury, he came off the bench and has contributed ten goals and five assists in 14 appearances.
Although Osimhen has more goal contributions than Akgun, Engin, in an interview with Beyaz TV via Haber Sari Kirmizi, named the Turkish winger as the standout player. He praised Akgun's impact, calling it a "Maradona effect" at Galatasaray.
Engin emphasized that Akgun’s goal-scoring and assisting abilities are exceptional, noting how valuable his defensive contributions are as well. He even suggested that Akgun's style of play could make Kerem Aktürkoğlu redundant at Galatasaray.
Both Akgun and Osimhen have combined for 28 goal involvements this season, making them two of the team’s most influential players.
As the season progresses, Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk will rely on the continued form and fitness of both players to help secure a third consecutive Super Lig title and achieve other team objectives.
