Ex-Arsenal striker Lacazette supports Gift Orban's goal-scoring resurgence ambition

Posted : 27 February 2024

Former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has voiced his support for Gift Orban, who has faced criticism for his performance and attitude since joining Lyon last month.

Orban, who moved from KAA Gent to Lyon in the January transfer window, has struggled to make an impact, failing to score in all his Ligue 1 appearances. Lyon's overall poor form this season, with the team currently sitting in 10th place on the league table, has added to the challenges.

In Lyon's recent 2-1 victory over Metz, Orban delivered a subpar performance, leading to his substitution at the start of the second half. The French press has been critical, and Lacazette, a teammate of Orban, has stepped forward to offer his support.

Lacazette, in comments reported by Butfootballclub, remarked, "I think things are going well for him. He's quite funny in the sense that he says a lot of things in the second degree. I think for people who didn't understand him at first, it seemed a little weird, but he has a lot of humor. He is hungry for progress, he wants to help the team and score a lot of goals. He has that side in him to progress and help the team move up the standings."

Orban, a 21-year-old Super Eagles invitee, has made six appearances for Lyon across all competitions, scoring one goal in the Coupe de France. He aims to continue his scoring form in their upcoming match against Strasbourg at the Groupama Stadium.
