Everton sign Jack Harrison on loan, completes hip injury rehabilitation
Posted : 14 August 2023
English winger Jack Harrison has joined Everton on a season-long loan from Leeds United, finalizing the deal after passing a medical assessment on Monday. Although Aston Villa showed interest in the 26-year-old, he ultimately chose Everton for his next football venture.
Harrison will undergo further rehabilitation for a minor hip injury before he becomes eligible for selection. His addition marks Everton's fourth summer signing, with Ashley Young, Arnaut Danjuma, and Youssef Chermiti already joining the squad.
Initially, Aston Villa was keen on signing Harrison, but their interest waned when they learned that his injury would sideline him for a month, a longer duration than they had anticipated.
Harrison's journey to Everton began when he joined Leeds in 2021 from Manchester City for £11 million. Prior to the permanent transfer, he had been on loan at Leeds since 2018. In April, he signed a new five-year contract with Leeds, shortly before the club's relegation to the Championship.
While Everton is making these moves, discussions with Leeds for the acquisition of Wilfried Gnonto are ongoing, although an agreement has not yet been reached for the 19-year-old Italian winger. Gnonto has declined to play for Leeds, leading the club to initiate disciplinary measures against him.
Additionally, Everton has expressed interest in securing Portuguese striker Beto, aged 25, from Serie A side Udinese. However, negotiations for this transfer have not progressed significantly at this point.
