Everton sign Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal
Posted : 23 July 2023
Everton has finalized the signing of winger Arnaut Danjuma on a season-long loan from Villarreal. The Netherlands forward had initially agreed to terms with the Toffees in January, but a last-minute offer from Tottenham led him to join Spurs instead.
However, after making nine appearances for Tottenham, he returned to Spain at the end of the season.
Danjuma revealed that the uncertainty surrounding Everton's managerial situation at the time was a factor in his decision not to move to Merseyside in January.
Frank Lampard was sacked as Everton boss on January 23, and Sean Dyche was appointed seven days later, just one day before the transfer window closed.
Now, as Dyche's second signing as Everton manager, Danjuma is eager to join the club. He expressed his excitement about playing for Everton, citing the fans, the manager, and the club's rich history as the reasons that drew him towards the opportunity. This will be Danjuma's third stint in the English top flight, having previously signed for Bournemouth in 2019 and later moving to La Liga in 2021.
The 26-year-old winger has six caps for the Netherlands national team and was a key player for Villarreal in their 2021-22 Champions League campaign, where they reached the semi-finals but were defeated by Liverpool.
With Danjuma's addition to the squad, Everton is hoping to strengthen their ranks and avoid another relegation battle in the upcoming Premier League season. The Toffees will kick off their campaign at home against Fulham on Saturday, August 12.
