Liverpool 0-1 Everton: Everton secures victory over Liverpool in Women's Super League
Posted : 16 October 2023
In a well-deserved victory, Everton defeated Liverpool in the Women's Super League, securing their first points of the season and continuing their dominance in the Merseyside derby at Anfield. Megan Finnigan, the Blues' captain, opened the scoring with a header in the first half, marking Liverpool's first goal conceded in the league this season. Liverpool, despite a bright start, had an early goal by Missy Bo Kearns controversially disallowed for offside and hit the crossbar with a shot by Ceri Holland.
However, Everton gained control of the game after breaking the deadlock. They could have extended their lead in the second half with opportunities from Justine Vanhaevermaet and substitute Katja Snoeijs, who hit the woodwork on her comeback from injury.
Everton's strong defense and composure earned them a well-deserved victory, silencing the Anfield crowd that had seen Everton's superiority in this fixture. Liverpool has struggled against Everton in recent WSL games, with just one win in their last seven encounters and no goals scored against the Toffees at Anfield, suffering three defeats in the process.
