Euro Qualifiers Set to Determine Group Outcomes

Posted : 25 June 2024

Two more groups will be decided on Tuesday with the Netherlands facing Austria and France taking on Poland in Group D, while England will compete against Slovenia and Denmark will clash with Serbia in Group C. We preview the action from Berlin, Dortmund, Cologne, and Munich.

In Berlin, the Netherlands will play Austria in a crucial Group D match. The Netherlands' goalless draw with France last Friday was a solid performance, leaving them on the verge of advancing to the last 16. Captain Virgil van Dijk praised his team’s effort against France and emphasized the need for strategic analysis against Austria. Meanwhile, Austria's victory over Poland has boosted their confidence as they aim for a knockout stage berth, with Marcel Sabitzer expressing optimism about their chances.

In Dortmund, France will face Poland in another Group D encounter. France, with four points from their previous matches, are poised to secure a top-two finish against Poland, a team they haven’t lost to in over four decades. Olivier Giroud believes France will regain their scoring efficiency. On the other hand, Poland, already set to finish fourth, are looking to gain experience and positives despite their struggles, as noted by defender Przemysław Frankowski.

In Cologne, Group C leaders England will go up against Slovenia. Gareth Southgate's squad needs just a point to confirm their advancement to the last 16. Kyle Walker highlighted the importance of managing the game in tournament football, focusing on the positives of leading the group. Slovenia, despite a last-minute setback against Serbia, are determined to secure their first Euro knockout stage appearance, with defender Žan Karničnik inspired by the support from their fans.

In Munich, Denmark will meet Serbia in a pivotal Group C match. Denmark’s spirited performance against England, capped by Morten Hjulmand’s equalizer, has kept their hopes alive. Andreas Skov Olsen is confident of a strong showing against Serbia. Serbia, thanks to Luka Jović’s late goal against Slovenia, remain in contention and are focused on securing a crucial victory to advance.
