Erling Haaland emphasized his role as a goal scorer after winning the Gerd Muller Trophy at the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris. The Manchester City striker had a remarkable 2022/23 season, netting 56 goals for both his club, during their treble-winning campaign, and the Norwegian national team. During the award presentation, Haaland expressed, "It's my job, that's why I'm here. It's what I'm good at." He also offered advice to fellow players, encouraging them to stay hungry, be in the moment, and stay sharp, aiming to experience the amazing feeling of success repeatedly.
Haaland's achievement marks him as the third recipient of the Gerd Muller Trophy, following Robert Lewandowski's victories in 2021 and 2022. His debut Premier League season with Manchester City was nothing short of record-breaking, as he scored 36 goals in 35 games and provided eight assists.
Notably, he registered four hat-tricks on his way to setting the record for the most Premier League goals in a single season. Beyond his league performance, Haaland contributed with three goals in the FA Cup and an impressive 12 goals in Manchester City's historic UEFA Champions League win, including a memorable five-goal display against RB Leipzig in the round of 16.
Receiving the Gerd Muller Trophy, Haaland expressed his pride, acknowledging the crucial role his teammates played in his success and the team's remarkable achievements. He highlighted their dedication and hard work, emphasizing their focus on replicating their successes in the upcoming season.
At the ceremony, host Didier Drogba playfully challenged Haaland to adopt one of two iconic goal celebrations, and Haaland humorously promised a surprise for his next goal celebration, keeping fans guessing.
