Erik ten Hag expressed contentment with Manchester United's decision to secure the signing of Rasmus Hojlund during the summer transfer window, even in the face of Harry Kane's transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich within the same timeframe.
At the age of 20, Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford in a deal that could potentially reach £72 million ($91 million). Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Kane, a player heavily linked with United as they sought a new striker, is on the brink of a move to Bayern for a fee exceeding £100 million.
Ten Hag addressed the situation in a press conference on Friday, stating, "We have chosen a striker and we are really happy with our choice."
Acknowledging Kane's prowess, Ten Hag emphasized, "[Kane] is a great striker, a goal maker and apart from that he has all the conditions and abilities that you want to see in a striker. It's a miss for the Premier League, absolutely."
Kane's track record in the Premier League includes consistent goal-scoring over nearly a decade, with 30 league goals achieved in the previous season.
Comparatively, Hojlund is relatively untested at the elite level, having managed nine goals for Atalanta in Serie A during the last season.
Regarding the decision to choose Hojlund over the England captain, Ten Hag opted not to delve into specifics, stating, "I don't think that I have to go into that discussion or give an opinion about that."
Asserting the professionalism of their decision-making process, Ten Hag elaborated, "We are professional and the processes we do are really careful. We consider a lot of things but finally we make decisions, but not overnight. We study every decision and we are happy with the squad we have behind us now."
Despite Hojlund's absence from the forthcoming game against Wolverhampton Wanderers due to a back injury, Ten Hag downplayed concerns of a prolonged absence, stating, "As we said previously, he had a small issue. He's not on the levels where our players are in this moment so we have to train him. The prognosis [is] difficult always to say. We are confident and we are positive."
Furthermore, Ten Hag clarified that Harry Maguire remains available for selection in the squad against Wolves on Monday, despite West Ham manager David Moyes confirming that they have accepted a £30 million bid for the England defender. Moyes noted, "We've had a bid accepted from Manchester United, but while he's not our player I'm not in a position to discuss him."
