Eric Chelle receives good news: Lookman fit for WCQ

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman remains a strong candidate for a spot in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming March internationals, despite currently recovering from a right knee injury.


With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers approaching, new Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle is preparing to announce his provisional squad for the two crucial matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.


Lookman is expected to be part of Chelle's plans for the double-header, barring any setbacks with his recovery.


Italian media reports, including Fantamaster, suggest that Lookman is not racing against time and could be fit to play in approximately two weeks, providing his recovery goes as expected.


In the worst-case scenario, the 2024 African Footballer of the Year would make his return to action on March 2, 2025, when Atalanta faces Venezia at Gewiss Stadium.


If Lookman's rehabilitation progresses smoothly, he could feature in at least three matches for Atalanta before joining up with the Super Eagles for international duty.


The injury occurred during a training session ahead of Atalanta's Champions League clash with Barcelona, and the Nigerian has missed the club's last three matches due to the issue. As the Super Eagles sit near the bottom of their World Cup qualifying group, Lookman’s return will be vital for their campaign.
