Equatorial Guinea has unveiled its 27-man squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast, with veteran striker Emilio Nsue appointed as the team's captain.
The 34-year-old, previously associated with Birmingham City and Middlesbrough, leads a squad that boasts a strong Spanish influence, with 12 players based at Spanish clubs.
Coach Juan Micha, who released the squad on Monday, has included key players from the team that surprised many by defeating holders Algeria in the last AFCON and reaching the quarterfinals in the tournament held in Cameroon.
Among the notable inclusions is 19-year-old defender Hugo Buyla, yet to make his senior debut at Sampdoria, and Charles Ondo, who plays for Huddersfield Town’s under-21 team.
The squad is set to compete in Group A alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau, and Nigeria, with their campaign kicking off on January 14 against Nigeria in Abidjan.
Equatorial Guinea aims to build on their previous success and make a mark in the prestigious continental tournament with their talented and diverse squad.
