The Equatoguinean Football Federation has officially secured the commitment of Charles Nduwuisi Ondo, formerly with Huddersfield Town, ensuring he can no longer switch national allegiances.
Ondo's versatility is evident as he can play in various positions including left-back, centre-back, midfielder, and centre-forward.
Born in Spain, Ondo was eligible to represent Nigeria through his father and Equatorial Guinea through his mother's origin.
After debuting for Equatorial Guinea against Libya in an AFCON qualifier, Ondo quickly earned his fourth cap, closing the door on potential future selections by both the Nigeria Football Federation and Royal Spanish Football Federation.
Having participated in two friendly matches and two competitive games before turning 21, Ondo is now permanently tied to Equatorial Guinea and ineligible to switch associations to Nigeria or Spain.
During a recent 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Malawi, Ondo came off the bench in stoppage time to replace Iban Salvador as Equatorial Guinea secured a crucial 1-0 victory.
Despite opportunities during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Ondo did not feature in matches against Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, and Guinea, delaying his cap-tying until the recent World Cup qualifiers.
Equatorial Guinea has also secured the international statuses of CD Illescas defender Marvin Anieboh and UD Las Palmas star Saúl Basilio Coco-Bassey Oubiña, both of Nigerian descent, reinforcing their commitment to building a competitive national team.
