Enzo Maresca has dismissed concerns about a reported dispute between Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, insisting his focus remains solely on his team. The two co-owners were instrumental in the 2022 acquisition of Chelsea, but recent reports suggest tension between them over issues related to the club's management and operations.
Eghbali has taken a more prominent role in running the club, especially after Boehly's brief stint as sporting director. However, disagreements over recruitment, results, and the delay in building a new stadium have reportedly strained their relationship.
One major point of contention involved the dismissal of former manager Mauricio Pochettino, with Boehly reportedly backing him, while Eghbali and the club’s co-sporting directors preferred a new direction. Pochettino's departure paved the way for Maresca to step in as Chelsea's new manager.
As rumors circulate about Boehly and Eghbali potentially buying out each other's shares to gain sole control of the club, the ownership dispute seems far from resolution. Eghbali's Clearlake Capital holds a majority 61.5% stake, while Boehly retains a minority share of 12.8%.
Despite the behind-the-scenes turmoil, Maresca remains clear about his priorities. Speaking ahead of Chelsea's match against Bournemouth, he emphasized that his attention is on his players and preparing for the game. Maresca pointed out that distractions from the boardroom won’t affect his approach, stating, "The other things are things I cannot control. My focus is on tomorrow's game."
Maresca also downplayed any issues with Boehly or Eghbali, revealing that he has spoken with both owners recently and saw no problems. For him and his players, the focus is on improving their performances on the pitch, and he remains committed to maintaining that concentration regardless of any off-field drama.
