Enyimba Int'l will try to break the jinx of unbeaten streak of Bendel Insurance

Posted : 07 June 2023
For a team that is yet to lose a single match in the season, Enyimba International FC faces an uphill task to beat Bendel Insurance FC at team that just set the record of longest unbeaten games in the history of Nigerian football.

Obviously, the Match day 3 of the ongoing NPFL 2023 championship playoffs between Bendel Insurance and Enyimba International FC will be a cracker.

In the previous meeting this season, it was Bendel Insurance that had the upper hand, having beaten Enyimba in the first meeting, while the return fixtures ended in a draw.

Bendel Insurance may appear to be struggling in the ongoing Super 6 due to two succesive draws against Lobi Stars which ended in a barren draw and another 1-1 draw against Sunshine Stars of Akure in the Match Day 2.

Eight-time league winners, Enyimba FC, however appear to have a little edge with draw and one win in a bag. The People's Elephant played a pulsating 2-2 draw against Remo Stars in the first match, while they pipped Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi 1-0 in the Match Day 2 encounter.

Insurance on the other hand, have struggled to replicate the form with which they started the season with, drawing over 6 of their last 10 league games.

At the inception of the league season, they defiled expectations and made many believe they can go all the way; however, hopes are beginning to dim as their performance hasn’t really been reflective of a title challenger.

In the regular season, Insurance of Benin picked 4 points from two games against Aba giants, Enyimba FC by acquiring maximum of 3 points at home and sharing the spoils at the Aba township Stadium. The People’s Elephants will hope to beat Benin Arsenal when it matters most so as to solidify their spot on top of the log.

Enyimba talisman, Emeka Obioma has scored 75 per cent of Enyimba's goals this season, and if fit, the Aba giants will be relying heavily on his services this afternoon against Bendel Insurance, whose talisman, Imade Osarenkhoe has struggled in recent games.

On a positive note, Rivers United and Enyimba have four points apiece from two matches, and wins for both teams will take them to seven points, which could be difficult for the trailing teams to surpass with two match days remaining in the competition.

A victory for Enyimba today, after the 2pm game, will mean a lot for the People’s Elephants.
