The 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier League, NPL champions, Enyimba FC on Monday relieved its Technical Crew of their duties in a letter sent to them by the management of the team.
Africa Sport Network (ASN) reports that same pattern followed after Kano Pillars, a team that just got promoted to the Premier League, announced the disbandment of their crew.
The sacking of the technical crew of Enyimba International FC is coming just a month after the team was presented with their 9th league trophy in Lagos after the Super 6 decider of the Abridged 2022/2023 format adopted by the Interim Management Committee (IMC).
However, following the appointment of ex international, Kanu Nwankwo as the Supervisor of the club, the new chairman through his Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme announced the dissolution of Enyimba FC’s coaching crew, staff and management with immediate effect.
Ekwueme in the letter directed that all coaches, staff and management crew should re-apply for their positions within 48 hours.
In a bid to clear the air, Ekwueme in a chat maintained that the Technical Adviser of the Club, Finidi George, was not affected as there was an ongoing negotiation about his contract extension.
“For now, there are no issues in the club but I feel the development is not unconnected with the change of government in the state and also leadership of the club.
“Kanu just came in and he would need to get his own people on board in order to achieve his projections. What he did is not out of place but the issue is that all these are happening too soon especially after a wonderful season,” the source who craved not to be mentioned, informed.
It could be recalled that both Kanu and Finidi were teammates at Ajax when the duo won the 1995 UEFA Champions League.
