It was yet another disappointing result for the winless Enyimba International FC of Aba on Tuesday as they played out a frustrating 0-0 draw against Bendel Insurance FC, going into the new year 2025 without a win in 8 matches.
The 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 18, played at the Enyimba International Stadium, was the first match for the newly appointed coach, Stanley Eguma, in the dugout.
The home team faced a determined Insurance side that was solid at the back for the entire 90 minutes of the match.
Speaking after the match, Stanley Eguma, Enyimba’s newly appointed coach, said his team played well but could not convert the scoring chances that came their way.
“Today’s game was not bad. I think we had a lot of scoring chances, but some players were jittery and couldn’t make their presence felt by winning the match.
“We played well, but our conversion was poor. One good thing, though, is that we can play as a team. We just need a better tactical approach to finishing.
“I only resumed about eight hours ago, and the thing is, by the end of this first round, I will be able to evaluate the team better,” Eguma said.
He explained that there was nothing more he could do, except to make use of whatever resources were available and ensure that the team performs better in the second round of the league.
On his part, Bendel Insurance coach Greg Ikhenogba noted that the match went according to their game plan.
He said the players executed the game plan well, and they were happy to come away with a point against Enyimba.
“Enyimba is a good team, but no team is unbeatable if you can convert your chances.
“We’ll keep working hard. The first round is over, and we’ll go home, prepare for the second round, and I believe we will do well,” he said.
The result lifted Enyimba to ninth on the league table with 24 points after 16 matches, while Insurance stayed in 15th position with 21 points after 19 matches.
