The Head Coach of Enyimba FC, Finidi George, has criticized Akwa United for allegedly employing negative tactics to run down the clock by hiding the match balls during Enyimba's 3-1 loss to Akwa United.
The Peoples Elephant's coach rebuked the Promise Keepers for concealing the balls instead of keeping them for use when the one in play went out. He emphasized that there are acceptable ways to delay time in a game, such as maintaining ball possession, and at Enyimba, such uncivilized practices are not tolerated.
"We didn't start the game properly. We were a bit sluggish. Giving a team playing at home the opportunity to score will boost their morale.
From that point, we struggled to retain possession, to push forward and secure the second goal. We attempted a comeback after that penalty, pushing all players to equalize on a counter-attack, but they scored their third goal.
I believe they deserve to win. You have to give them credit, but what I didn't like is that, when they were winning, all the balls disappeared. Akwa is better than that.
We don't engage in such practices at Enyimba. It's not suitable for a team like Akwa United. They should aim higher. Let the ball boys do their job. Suddenly, we were left with only one ball.
I must commend them for the victory, but they should improve in this aspect. I can't hide my feelings.
That's what I observed, and they need to be better. If it were done to them, I believe they wouldn't be happy.
Even if you want to waste time, there are ways to delay. You can maintain ball possession and waste time with it, but not suddenly having all the ball boys disappear, leaving us searching for them."
