2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 25: Enyimba Int'l FC coach raises eyebrow as team squanders chances against Katsina United FC

Posted : 22 February 2025

Enyimba FC head coach, Stanley Eguma, was left ruing missed chances as his side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Katsina United in their NPFL Matchday 25 encounter at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Thursday.

Despite dominating large spells of the game, the People’s Elephant failed to capitalize on their opportunities, allowing the Chanji Boys to secure all three points.

Goals from Lukeman Bello in the 40th and 49th minutes handed the hosts a crucial victory, while Enyimba’s late consolation through substitute Ekene Awazie was not enough to salvage a result.

Eguma, visibly disappointed after the game, insisted that his team had been the better side but were undone by their wastefulness in front of goal.

“It’s unfortunate we lost this game. We prepared to get a better result or even win, but it didn’t happen,” Eguma lamented.

“We created some chances but couldn’t convert them, while our opponents took theirs. That was the difference—not that they outclassed us. We missed too many chances.”

With the NPFL title race heating up, Enyimba’s failure to take their chances could prove costly in the long run.

The Aba giants now need a quick turnaround as they prepare for the State final of the President Federation Cup before shifting focus back to their league campaign.

Eguma remains hopeful that his side can bounce back, emphasizing the need to address their shortcomings before the next fixture.

“We will take the positives from this game and work on the negatives,” he said. “We need to ensure we come out stronger in the next match.”

For Katsina United, this victory boosts their survival push, while for Enyimba, the defeat serves as a wake-up call in their NPFL title pursuit.

The People’s Elephant must now regroup quickly to keep their championship aspirations alive.

Up next for the Aba giants is the Abia State President Federation Cup final against Ahudiyanne FC of Abiriba.
