2024/2025 CAF Confederation Cup: Enyimba FC coach, Olarenwaju, blames defeat on fatigue, poor scoring form

Posted : 17 December 2024

The coach of Enyimba International FC, Yemi Olarenwaju, has attributed his team’s 3-0 defeat to Black Bulls to fatigue and poor scoring form.

The Nigerian side suffered a heavy loss to the Mozambican team in their Match Day 3 encounter of the CAF Confederation Cup.

“If you ask me, I would say it was a good game by my team today, even though we lost 3-0,” Olarenwaju said.

“The scoreline did not reflect the true flow of the game. We were in control for a greater part of the match, but I think we lost concentration due to fatigue.”

He further explained, “The goals we conceded were unnecessary. The first two goals came from corner kicks, and after the second, it became difficult to fight back.

We arrived here only yesterday (Saturday) evening after a hectic schedule.

“We had a league game on Wednesday in Nigeria, traveled to Lagos on Thursday, and left for Mozambique on Friday. It’s been overwhelming for the players, and the result is evident in our performance.

“We’ve played five games in the past two weeks. It’s not healthy for the players, especially given the distances we’re covering.

“For the next CAFCC game, we’ll have played five more league games. It’s clumsy and crazy, but hopefully, the authorities in Nigeria will step in to help manage our fixtures,” he stated.

Commenting on the team’s struggles this season, he said: “Our problem this season has been scoring goals. Even today, we could have scored three or four goals, but it didn’t happen. Hopefully, we’ll bring in one or two strikers in January to strengthen the team.”

Enyimba International’s hopes in the CAF Confederation Cup suffered a major setback with the heavy defeat to debutants Black Bulls of Mozambique.

After a 2-2 draw against Zamalek in Uyo, the Nigerian side started the game against Black Bulls on the back foot.

Akporoh put the hosts ahead in the 16th minute, ensuring they went into halftime in control.

Fidel doubled the lead for the Mozambicans in the 57th minute before Abubakar sealed the win with a third goal just five minutes later.

The defeat leaves the People’s Elephant with only one point from three matches, placing them at the bottom of their group.
