England Defeat Scotland 3-1 in commemorative match marking 150 years

In a commemorative match marking 150 years since their inaugural meeting, England emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over Scotland at Hampden Park. The contest began with high expectations for Scotland, but it was England who dominated for large portions of the game, stunning the home crowd with two quick-fire goals in the first half.

The opening goal came in the 32nd minute when Phil Foden capitalized on Kyle Walker's cross-shot to slot the ball home. Just minutes later, Jude Bellingham punished a clearance error by Scotland's Andy Robertson, firing a low shot into the net.

England continued to control the match until the 67th minute when substitute Harry Maguire inadvertently redirected Robertson's low cross into his own net, giving Scotland hope for a late equalizer. However, it was England who sealed the victory as Bellingham, who had a standout performance, set up Harry Kane to score in the 81st minute.

The game showcased England's dominance, and Gareth Southgate will be pleased with the impact of Bellingham and Lewis Dunk, who excelled in defense during just his second start for the national team.

Jude Bellingham's performance was a highlight, displaying his skill on the ball in midfield and making direct runs behind Scotland's defense. He contributed to the opening goal, set up the third, and added the second goal himself, continuing his impressive goal-scoring form for both club and country this season.

This victory marked England's 600th win in all competitions, making them the first European nation to reach this milestone in international football. Bellingham's performance was notable, as he became the first England player to both score and assist a goal in a match against Scotland since Kevin Keegan in May 1979.

Looking ahead, England will face Australia in another friendly on October 13, followed by a Euro 2024 Group C qualifier against Italy four days later. Meanwhile, Scotland will travel to Spain for a Group A qualifier on October 12 before participating in a friendly against France. Despite this loss, Scotland remains in contention for back-to-back Euros, needing just two points from their final three Group A matches to secure qualification.
