England captain Leah Williamson believes her World Cup dream is dashed after rupturing her ACL

After suffering an ACL tear during Wednesday's loss for Arsenal against Manchester United, England captain Leah Williamson declared that her "World Cup dream is ended."
Williamson's recuperation is not expected to take more than six months, according to Arsenal, so she won't be able to lead the Lionesses in the Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which takes place from July 20 to August 20.
The team is selected by head coach Sarina Wiegman in late May, and England's debut is against Haiti on Saturday, July 22, in Brisbane.
Along with Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema, Williamson is now a key Arsenal player who has suffered a cruciate ligament injury this season. Kim Little, the team's captain, is also sidelined with a hamstring injury as they try to build on their League Cup victory earlier in the year by winning the WSL and the Champions League.
