Nigeria-eligible Tyrique Delali Yusuff George, an 18-year-old English talent, has earned a call-up to the Chelsea first team, a testament to his impressive performances with the U-18 side under the watchful eye of Mauricio Pochettino.
Born on February 4, 2006, in London, England, to Nigerian parents, George became a part of the Chelsea youth setup in 2014 at the tender age of eight. Progressing through the Chelsea academy, he has showcased his skills, tallying eleven goals and contributing nine assists in just thirty-four games for the U-18 side.
While primarily a left winger, George exhibits versatility by seamlessly transitioning between various positions on the field, including striker and attacking midfielder. His playing style revolves around utilizing his pace to unsettle fullbacks, creating chaos for opponents. Additionally, he takes on the responsibility of initiating attacks, showcasing his ability to unleash powerful shots from a distance when needed.
Tyrique George has gained recognition for his spectacular goals, earning eight Goal of the Month award nominations since 2021. Remarkably, he has been nominated for the award in five consecutive months, starting from October 2023.
With a striking resemblance to Bukayo Saka, George previously represented England at the Under-16 level during the 2021/22 season and was part of the Val de Marne winning squad in that age group. His inclusion in the England Under-17s squad for the 2023 European Championship highlights his international experience.
Standing at 1.71m tall, the winger played a significant role in the Chelsea U-18 side during the 2022/23 season, making 28 appearances, with 18 starts, before being promoted to the U-18s at the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
The intriguing question remains whether the talented youngster is open to a potential switch of nationality to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
