England bolsters squad with newcomers ahead of Euro qualifiers, injury setbacks persist

Posted : 13 November 2023
England's national team has ushered in a trio of fresh talents for the imminent European Championship qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia, as confirmed by the Football Association (FA) on Monday. Notably, Chelsea's Cole Palmer, Manchester City's Rico Lewis, and Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa earn their maiden call-ups to bolster the squad.

Palmer's impactful arrival at Chelsea, marked by four league goals since his switch from Manchester City on deadline day, includes a crucial stoppage-time equalizer in the recent riveting 4-4 Premier League showdown between the two clubs.

Meanwhile, the seasoned performance of Konsa, aged 26, has been pivotal in Aston Villa's ascent to fifth place in the league standings. On the other end of the spectrum, 18-year-old Lewis, displaying promise, has contributed across 10 appearances in various competitions for the Premier League champions, Manchester City.

However, the squad faces setbacks as James Maddison, Lewis Dunk, and Callum Wilson, initially part of the squad lineup, have withdrawn due to injury concerns. Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham's inclusion, despite an injury cloud, is upheld in the squad roster, adding to the team's potential strength.
