Emerson Royal's Potential Season-Ending Surgery Deals Tottenham Another Setback

Posted : 11 April 2023
Following his contentious outburst in a news conference, Tottenham fired manager Antonio Conte over the weekend and are now looking for a long-term replacement.

Emerson Royal, a Brazilian defender, was hurt while serving his country overseas, and Spurs have now been dealt a blow with the possibility that he could miss the remainder of the campaign.

The news that Emerson Royal would require knee surgery has dealt Tottenham a significant setback.
In their Saturday international friendly against Morocco, the right-back was unable to prevent Brazil's 2-1 loss.

According to reports, the player will be out for about six weeks, which raises questions about whether he will be able to play for Tottenham again this year.
The announcement is yet another setback for Tottenham in their quest to win a ticket in the Champions League by finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

After months of rumors that the Italian manager would not sign a contract extension this summer, Tottenham fired manager Antonio Conte at the weekend. After the manager made a contentious statement to the media, chairman Daniel Levy decided to fire him and appointed Cristian Stellini as the interim manager.

Although Japhet Tanganga has made some first-team appearances and has previously played at wing-back, Pedro Porro, a January transfer window addition, is now the only other senior Spurs right-back who is available to play.

Another choice would have been Djed Spence, who was acquired from Nottingham Forest in the summer, but he has since been loaned to Ligue 1 team Rennes, while Matt Doherty was permitted to depart during the same transfer window when Porro entered the picture in order to join Atletico Madrid.

Ben Davies' injury, which the left-back sustained during the 3-3 tie with Southampton that prompted Conte's divisive comments to the media, has made the defensive dilemma worse.
