Elisabeth Terland's double secures Brighton's WSL opener victory against Everton

Brighton kicked off their Women's Super League season with a strong performance, defeating Everton thanks to two goals by Elisabeth Terland in the first half. Terland opened the scoring in the third minute, heading home after Katie Robinson's shot hit the crossbar. She added her second goal just 11 minutes later.
Everton's captain, Megan Finnigan, pulled one back for her team with a goal 25 minutes from the final whistle, giving them hope. Despite dominating the second half, Everton couldn't find an equalizer.
This victory marks a positive start for Melissa Phillips' Brighton team, who were involved in a relegation battle last season. Phillips, who took over as manager in March, couldn't have asked for a better beginning to the new WSL campaign.
Terland's first goal came after Emily Ramsey, Everton's new goalkeeper, pushed Robinson's long-range shot onto the crossbar, and the rebound fell to Terland, allowing her to score the opening goal. The Norwegian forward, aged 22, continued to threaten Everton's defense and secured her brace by converting Robinson's well-placed through pass.
Although Everton improved as the game progressed, with Nicoline Sorensen hitting the crossbar from close range and new signing Martina Piemonte testing Brighton's goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley, it was Finnigan who gave Everton hope with her goal in the 65th minute. Finnigan collected Hanna Bennison's corner and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.
Everton pushed hard for an equalizer, but Brighton managed the game effectively in the closing moments. German international Pauline Bremer, returning to the WSL after a spell at Wolfsburg, showcased her experience by maintaining possession in the corner to run down the clock, securing Brighton's victory.
