The Borno Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Alhaji Saina Buba, stated that henceforth, football lovers would be required to pay to watch the state team, El-Kanemi Warriors FC matches in Maiduguri.
Buba mentioned that since the return of relative peace to the state, most sports enthusiasts had been enjoying free access to watch the team's matches.
He emphasized that this arrangement was no longer tenable if the state sports council aimed to generate revenue to support the team.
Buba further explained that the government was ready to commercialize the team's games to interested individuals or groups who would pay for any match and then sell their tickets to recoup their money and make a profit.
He assured that the government had settled all outstanding dues of the El-Kanemi team and players.
He expressed determination to do everything necessary to ensure the team tops the Division One league and advances to the Premier league.
"We want to thank Gov. Babagana Zulum for the prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements of the club.
"We are leading the league and have won all eight of our matches except the Sunday match we lost to Zamfara United.
"This year, Insha Allah, we are going to the Premier league," Buba said.
The commissioner also announced the disbursement of cash rewards to athletes who won medals at the last National Sports Festival and Youth Games in Asaba, Delta, in 2023.
