Aarhus Gymnastikforening, a Danish Superliga club, has officially announced the signing of talented Nigerian midfielder Ekemini Ime. This acquisition marks an important step in Ime's career as he embarks on his journey in European football.
Ime has committed to a five-year contract with AGF, beginning his tenure with the club's U19 team. This opportunity allows him to develop his skills in a competitive environment as he adjusts to the demands of European football.
Despite the official announcement being made on Wednesday, Ime has already made his debut for the AGF youth squad. He entered the game as a substitute in the fifteenth minute during a challenging match that ended in a 1-0 defeat to FC Midtjylland last weekend. Unfortunately, he received a yellow card shortly after stepping onto the field to replace the injured Oskar Haugstrup.
Ekemini Ime is among the first talents to be integrated into AGF’s new academy, set to open in October at Fredensvang. This initiative aims to cultivate young players and provide them with the necessary resources to succeed.
Stig Inge, the sports director of AGF, praised Ime, describing him as a promising young player with a strong physical profile that aligns well with the club's playing style, particularly in his role as a defensive midfielder. Inge expressed confidence in Ime’s potential for growth within the club’s framework, supported by the coaching staff.
Inge emphasized Ime's tenacity and work ethic, noting that he has room for improvement both physically and in terms of his overall gameplay. He conveyed excitement about watching Ime's development in the coming years.
Ekemini Ime aspires to follow in the footsteps of former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles midfielder Edafe Egbedi, who successfully transitioned from youth football to making his senior debut for AGF. As AGF prepares for their upcoming match against Silkeborg on Saturday, they currently sit in seventh place in the U19 Ligaen.
