Edson Alvarez undergoes medical examination, set for West Ham summer transfer
Posted : 08 August 2023
Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez is set to undergo a medical examination today as he prepares to become West Ham's inaugural signing for the summer transfer window.
Alvarez has been on West Ham's radar for a while, and negotiations with Ajax have led to an agreement on a deal estimated at approximately £35 million.
Having played a pivotal role in Mexico's triumph at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States this summer, the 25-year-old is seen as a potential replacement for Declan Rice, with his primary strengths lying in his defensive midfield capabilities.
Assuming there are no unforeseen complications, the formal confirmation of the transfer is anticipated to be announced on Wednesday.
The impending acquisition of Alvarez is likely to be a welcome development for Hammers' manager David Moyes, who has faced challenges in bolstering his squad this summer following Rice's move to Arsenal.
West Ham has also submitted bids for Manchester United's duo Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay. However, it remains uncertain whether the club will successfully complete deals for either of these players.
