The Edo State Football Association (Edo FA) has unveiled Super Eagles' right-back, Bright Osayi-Samuel, as the Ambassador for the upcoming Edo State FA U-13 Football Championship Tournament.
The unveiling ceremony of the Super Eagles' international star was held in Benin City.
In his opening remarks at the unveiling event, the Chairman of the Edo State Football Association, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, stated that the Bright Osayi-Samuel U-13 Football Tournament will take place in Benin City, the Edo State capital, with the State's 18 Local Governments participating.
According to Fred, "The Edo State Football Association is glad to unveil the giant trophy for the maiden edition of the Bright Osayi-Samuel U-13 Football Tournament across the three senatorial districts.
"It’s an honour to unveil this trophy today and to say a big thank you to the cup donor, Bright Osayi-Samuel, who is also a grassroots ambassador to the state.
He is a man to be emulated and someone the youths are happy to see moving from stage to stage.
He has brought hope to the youth; because he started his career at the tender age of eleven, and today he is the star of the national team and also plays for one of the biggest Turkish teams, Fenerbahçe FC.
"We appreciate Mr. Osayi-Samuel for returning home to give back to the youths."
The Edo FA Chairman stressed that youth football is key to any football generation.
He further said, "As this tournament begins, we are going to discover some other Osayi-Samuels, we will discover other players that will also don the national team's colours and make Edo State proud.
"We are so grateful as a board, we are so grateful to this young man, and we pray that the good Lord will continue to strengthen him, and his football career will move to greater heights every time."
Fred stated that the Bright Osayi-Samuel Tournament will begin in late July, noting that Edo FA will hold a press conference where all stakeholders will discuss more about the tournament and its procedures.
The Edo FA Chairman, full of appreciation, said, "We say a big thank you to Mr. Nelson Osayi, the father of Bright Osayi-Samuel, and the mum for encouraging and supporting this laudable project. Thanks to Bright Osayi-Samuel and his family, and the people of Edo for making this possible."
Fred explained that, if possible, Bright Osayi-Samuel, who is the president of the competition, would travel to Nigeria to unveil the trophy to the general public when the tournament begins, and should he not be available, his father and his agent, Mr. Nelson Osayi, would handle the unveiling.
"The competition is set to inspire young talents and bring out promising footballers in Edo State. We aim to make stars of these young players," Fred emphasized.
Bright Osayi-Samuel encouraged the U-13 players and upcoming young football talents to believe in themselves, enjoy their time on the pitch, and use any negative comments as motivation to improve.
"Just keep believing, always enjoy yourself on the pitch, make every moment count.
Everyone who says you can't do it, make sure you take that comment as a challenge and a motivation to improve yourself," Bright said.
The Super Eagles' international star's father, Mr. Nelson Osayi, a former football player, also offered words of wisdom to the young generation.
"Keep your head up high, dream big, and don't ever let anyone make your dream look like it's not worth it. Ensure you do your best and leave the rest to the Almighty God," he advised.
The maiden edition of the Bright Osayi-Samuel U-13 Football Tournament is a project, a tournament that will be played annually.
It promises to be a significant event, fostering the discovery of the next generation of football talents in Edo State.
