Ednaldo Rodrigues to meet Carlo Ancelotti to discuss Brazil head coach job
Posted : 14 June 2023
Ednaldo Rodrigues, the president of the Brazilian Football Association (FA), revealed that he expects to meet with Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti or his representative to discuss the possibility of him becoming the new head coach of Brazil.
Ancelotti has stated his commitment to honoring his contract with Real Madrid, but Rodrigues did not rule out the option of waiting until July 2024 to appoint the renowned coach.
Rodrigues emphasized the importance of involving the board and players in the decision-making process, stating that their opinions need to be taken into account. While the final decision will require further discussions, Rodrigues expressed the FA's clear objective of hiring Ancelotti and mentioned that meetings are scheduled during his visit to Spain until June 18.
In March, Rodrigues had previously mentioned Ancelotti as an ideal candidate for the national team if he became available at the end of the European season. The Brazilian FA president highlighted Ancelotti's track record as a successful coach and his ability to manage a diverse group of players. The appointment of one of the world's top coaches would align with Brazil's status as one of the biggest national teams globally.
Since the departure of coach Tite after Brazil's quarterfinal exit in the 2022 World Cup, the team has been without a permanent coach. The Brazilian FA aims to fill the vacancy with a coach of Ancelotti's caliber to lead the five-time world champions.
