Ecuador Parts Ways with Coach Felix Sanchez Following Copa America Quarterfinal Exit

Ecuador's Football Federation (FEF) swiftly announced the departure of their Spanish coach Felix Sanchez following their Copa America quarterfinal loss to Argentina, where they drew 1-1 before succumbing 4-2 in penalties. The FEF expressed gratitude to Sanchez and his coaching staff for their professionalism and efforts, wishing them success in their future endeavors.

 

Sanchez, 48, previously coached youth teams at Barcelona in Spain before achieving success with Qatar's national team, leading them to victory in the 2019 Asian Cup. He joined Ecuador in March 2023 under a four-year contract and had guided the team to fifth place in the South American World Cup qualifiers before his departure.

 

The decision to part ways with Sanchez underscores Ecuador's desire for a new direction following their Copa America campaign, marking the end of his tenure despite his efforts to bolster the team's performance on the international stage.
