Dyche Warns Everton Against Complacency Ahead of Manchester City Clash

Posted : 25 December 2024

Everton manager Sean Dyche has emphasized that his team will not be complacent when they face struggling Premier League champions Manchester City on Thursday. Everton, after a shaky start to the season with four straight losses, have turned things around, losing just two of their last 12 matches.

In contrast, City, who have dominated the Premier League with four consecutive titles, are currently enduring a difficult run, having lost nine of their last 12 games as they prepare to host Everton at the Etihad.

Dyche acknowledged City’s past success under Pep Guardiola but warned against underestimating them, highlighting the unpredictability of football even for the top teams. "You'd think at some point it happens, even to the best," Dyche said, referring to City’s recent struggles. He pointed out that even the most successful sides face tough times, and getting the details right is crucial.

Dyche made it clear that Everton cannot assume victory against City, stressing the need for a strong performance, especially as they aim to continue their recovery and improve their goal-scoring record.

Everton will be without Ashley Young, who is suspended after accumulating five yellow cards, but Dyche confirmed that club captain Seamus Coleman is set to make his first start since August. The 36-year-old has been sidelined for much of the season due to injury but is now ready to step in.

Dyche praised Coleman’s commitment and resilience, noting that despite a challenging season, he has remained focused and determined to continue playing, fulfilling his responsibilities as captain.
