Strong showings from Brian Brobbey and Joshua Zirkzee in the Netherlands' first two Nations League matches have alleviated concerns about forward depth in the coming months.
Coach Ronald Koeman expressed his satisfaction with both players' performances in the games against Bosnia and Germany, easing worries about who could fill in for Memphis Depay if his club future remained uncertain.
Depay, who ranks second on the Netherlands’ all-time scoring list with 46 goals in 98 appearances, has recently joined Brazilian side Corinthians and is expected to rejoin the Dutch squad once he is match fit.
Zirkzee, recently transferred to Manchester United, made an impact in his first start for the national team, scoring during the Netherlands' 5-2 victory over Bosnia in Eindhoven.
Ajax Amsterdam’s Brian Brobbey, aged 22, showcased his abilities in a 2-2 draw against Germany, making life difficult for Germany's defense and causing Jonathan Tah to be substituted at halftime.
Koeman highlighted Brobbey's performance, noting that Tah was substituted due to repeated fouls on Brobbey, who excelled in his role. “Brobbey held his ground well, and his contribution was crucial,” Koeman said.
Although Zirkzee did not play in Tuesday's match, Koeman praised him for his previous performance, noting that Zirkzee and Tijjani Reijnders worked well together.
