The Head Coach of Lobi Stars, Eugene Agagbe, has praised his team's fighting spirit and attributed the 1-1 draw against Abia Warriors on Sunday, March 10, to their never-say-die attitude in the intense encounter.
The coach, who spoke after the challenging match at the Umuahia Township Stadium, thanked his players and promised not to relax or become complacent with the result. He assured that he would continue working hard to address the identified weaknesses and build a more formidable squad for future challenges.
"I thank my boys for their hard work. They entered the contest with a never-say-die fighting spirit. The odds were heavily against us, but they continued fighting until the last minutes, and in football, you don't give up until the final whistle is blown. That's why we have earned this draw today," said the former BCC Lions star.
The outspoken tactician also mentioned that after observing his opponents in the first half, he made a tactical switch by introducing three aggressive strikers to trouble Abia Warriors' defensive line, and that strategy paid off handsomely in the end.
After a goalless first half, substitute Fabian Omaka put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot, but Lobi Stars' bullish defender, John Victor, scored a thunderous free-kick deep into stoppage time to equalize, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
With this well-deserved result, the 'Yes Father Boys' have maintained their position at the top of the league table with 43 points and will host CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finalists, Rivers United, in Week 25 at Lafia City Stadium.
