Borussia Dortmund secured a crucial 2-0 victory against Union Berlin, maintaining their fourth position in the Bundesliga and staying one point ahead of RB Leipzig, who also claimed a convincing win against Bochum in the race for the fourth spot.
Karim Adeyemi's 41st-minute goal, his first of the season, set Dortmund on the path to victory, with Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen adding another in stoppage time. The win not only eases the pressure on under-fire manager Edin Terzic but also keeps Dortmund in contention for a Champions League spot.
RB Leipzig, in pursuit of Dortmund, secured a 4-1 victory against Bochum. Maximilian Wittek's opener, aided by an own goal from Leipzig goalie Peter Gulacsi, gave Bochum an early lead. Although Xavi Simons' equalizer was disallowed for offside, Leipzig bounced back with a Dani Olmo strike in the 30th minute.
Substitute Openda extended Leipzig's lead with a counter-attack goal in the 68th minute, followed by an own goal and a Yussuf Poulsen strike in the 71st and 72nd minutes, securing three crucial points. Despite this being Leipzig's third win in nine games this year, it keeps the pressure on Dortmund for the coveted fourth position.
In another Bundesliga fixture, Mainz and Borussia Monchengladbach settled for a 1-1 draw. Jonathan Burkardt's 12th-minute goal for Mainz was countered by a 55th-minute strike from Gladbach's Nathan Ngoumou, resulting in a share of points for the two teams.
