Doma Utd FC's matches are tough, but we are determined, says Coach

Posted : 20 November 2023
Buoyed by three successive home wins without conceding a goal at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, Plateau United's Match Day 9 visit for the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) provided another moment of consolidation for the Savannah Tigers, who rank second on the league table alongside Lobi Stars as the most impregnable defenses in the NPFL, with just 5 goals conceded in the current season, respectively.

Doma United FC has been dominant in their league campaign, which has seen them win an accolade for a beautiful brand of football.

The highest number of goals conceded by Doma United was when they traveled to Ibadan and were beaten 3-1, after which they have maintained decent results.

For the Peace Boys from Plateau, their left-back, Solomon Ogberahwe, made his first start in Match Day 9.

Perhaps another advantage Doma has is the penchant to watch football league matches, as Pantami Stadium has proven to amass the highest number of spectators this season. Only Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano commands such attendance. However, the Peace Boys appeared unfazed by the raucous crowd that rooted for the hosts in Pantami, orchestrating their play and probing in the opposition third half with appreciable attack.

The hosts attempted to assert dominance by playing an expansive brand of football that switched build-ups from the rear to the front and other key playing areas of the pitch.

It was clearly a tactical battle between both sides, with Plateau United's Mohammed Umar mustering a number of combinations that created a vital opportunity for forward Barnabas Daniel, but it appeared a little too high to connect.

The Peace Boys set up a fantastic high-pressing game that started from Sam Pam Junior, who combined with Solomon Ogberahwe, creating openings at the deep end of Doma United's defense.

The press continued with Yakubu Adams passing to Chris Nweaze, who combined in sublime fashion with Jackson Eru to set up Jackson yet again, who slashed an attempt that looked like heading into the target but was cleared to safety by the opposition.

The Peace Boys continued to combine in tight spaces, almost winning over a section of the fan base who applauded their brand of football that promoted technique, combination, work ethic, and beauty.

With play continuing, Doma United won a corner kick, and Sani Suleiman would deliver into the box, but Bamidele Adeniyi would parry the ball to safety but into Majalisa Andrew's confines, who beat and unleashed a low shot into the Peace Boys' net after 22 minutes to spark fans' celebrations.

As a result, a deep-line tactical battle ensued across both ends with gritty moments of close-knitted passes and interceptions from both sides dominating proceedings but not without much savor from a fan base that clearly appreciated the contest that was growing in intensity by minutes.

Plateau United would insist on securing an equalizer, with a delightful combination eventually producing a supply for Barnabas Daniel, whose attempt goes wide off target.

Heading into the deep, Doma United attempted to contain the flow of the game by managing combinations and creating channels, but the Peace Boys' late surge into the opposition area nearly produced an equalizer, courtesy of Sam Pam Junior's shot that stretched goalkeeper Kingdom Osayi to parry to safety and seal victory under compelling circumstances to go second in the current league standings.

The Head Coach of the Savannah Tigers, Akinade Onigbinde, said the NPFL matches had been tough.

“The game was not an easy one for Doma United.

“Plateau United came at us, but we were able to manage the pressure.

“The boys showed dedication despite playing huge amounts of games in a short day without any sign of fatigue; they were awesome throughout,'' he said.

However, the Peace Boys return to Jos on Match Day 10 with a home fixture against visiting Rivers United on Sunday, Nov. 25th.

Doma United FC, on the other hand, will travel to a difficult ground, Ikenne, to face Remo Stars.
