During the recent Ballon d’Or ceremony, Vinicius Junior was honored with the Socrates award for his social work, and the event's host, Didier Drogba, expressed solidarity with the Real Madrid forward in his battle against racism. Vinicius has faced several instances of racial abuse during his time in Spain, and La Liga is currently investigating additional allegations of such abuse following Saturday's El Clasico.
Drogba, the former Ivory Coast star, emphasized that Vinicius is not alone in this fight against racism, which has persisted for far too long. He called upon football authorities and governments to take concrete actions to eliminate racism, not only within stadiums but also worldwide. Vinicius responded with determination, pledging to continue his efforts in combating racism.
Vinicius expressed his commitment to the anti-racism cause and acknowledged the importance of addressing this issue in the world today. He also expressed his delight at receiving the award and his desire to assist underprivileged children in Brazil, providing them with opportunities he himself had to overcome great odds to achieve.
