Didier Drogba partners with FIFPRO, Drogba Foundation, ILO to combat fake agents

Didier Drogba, the former football star and social activist, is now focused on helping players in Africa who have fallen victim to fake agents promising them opportunities in football but exploiting them and leaving them abandoned.
Drogba has joined forces with FIFPRO, the Drogba Foundation, and the International Labour Organization to fight against these impostor agents, whom he compares to human traffickers.
According to a recent FIFPRO poll, 70 percent of football players in Africa have been contacted by agents promising to secure them moves to new teams, while 43 percent were promised trials or contracts that never materialized.
Drogba aims to educate young African players on how to respond to such offers, advising them to always contact their players' association, never pay an agent before receiving an official contract from a club, and seek legal advice before signing any agreements.
Drogba's crusade is not only to protect young players from falling into scams but also stems from his personal responsibility as a prominent figure in African football. Many young players are lured by the dream of becoming the next Didier Drogba, and he wants to make them more aware of the reality and potential pitfalls they may encounter.
The fraudulent agent schemes involve players filling out personal details and paying for handling paperwork, flights, and visas, only to be left stranded once the payments are made.
Drogba emphasizes the importance of teaching players to identify genuine agents and differentiate them from impostors, warning against agents who ask for money before securing a contract with a team.
Beyond addressing these immediate issues, Drogba aims to educate African players on their rights, especially as foreigners, and how to access social protection and build support networks in their host countries.
He believes agents should be the ones approaching players with necessary documents and assistance, rather than players having to seek them out. With his legacy and love for Africa, Drogba is determined to empower young players and bring dignity to the continent's football scene.
