Dermot Gallagher recently discussed why Wilfred Ndidi was not sent off during the Arsenal match, addressing frustrations from Arsenal fans who felt aggrieved following several controversial decisions in recent weeks.
Arsenal's dissatisfaction with refereeing began after Declan Rice was sent off for kicking the ball away in a previous match against Brighton.
The frustration deepened when Leandro Trossard received a red card for a similar offense against Manchester City, making Arsenal the only team this season to have faced two such dismissals.
Mikel Arteta expressed his discontent after these incidents, sarcastically suggesting that his team should avoid touching the ball to prevent further red cards: “We’ll play without the ball.”
During the Arsenal-Leicester match, Ndidi kicked the ball away after a foul while already on a yellow card, but he was not sent off. Gallagher explained that Ndidi’s action didn’t delay the restart since there were no players nearby ready to take the free kick.
Gallagher also defended the decision regarding Arsenal's goal, despite Leicester fans claiming there was a foul in the build-up, arguing that the on-field referee made the call, and it wasn’t a situation for VAR to intervene.
The inconsistency in these decisions has led to confusion, with Arsenal fans particularly irked by how similar incidents involving their players, like Declan Rice, have led to harsher punishments under Howard Webb’s strict interpretation of the rules.
