Denmark's U17 national team coach, Jesper Mikkelsen, believes that Arsenal's young striker Chido Obi-Martin will attract significant attention during the 2024 European U17 Championship.
The Danish Football Union unveiled their squad for the tournament in Cyprus, including the talented Nigerian-descended player among the 20 selected.
Obi-Martin's stellar performances in the U18 Premier League have garnered attention this season, with his goal-scoring prowess catching the eye of opponents, as evidenced in recent clashes like Arsenal versus Tottenham Hotspur.
With an impressive tally of 29 goals in seventeen league matches, Obi-Martin has surpassed records, including Folarin Balogun's, for the most goals scored by an Arsenal player in a single U18 Premier League season.
Jesper Mikkelsen anticipates that Obi-Martin will be a key focus for rival teams during the upcoming European Championship.
He stated, "We're delighted to have Chido with us. Teams will undoubtedly keep a close watch on him, and it's our job to leverage the attention he attracts."
Mikkelsen emphasizes the importance of utilizing Obi-Martin's presence to create opportunities for other talented offensive players on the team.
He adds, "This allows us to create space for other skilled attackers. While Chido contributes significantly in goal-scoring, we've also seen a diverse range of goal-scorers in our recent matches."
Obi-Martin, who has netted ten goals in fourteen appearances for Denmark's U17 national team, aims to join the ranks of previous Nigerian-descent players like Victor Moses and Dominic Solanke, who won the Golden Boot at the U17 EURO.
