Demarai Gray completes move to Al-Ettifaq from Everton amid managerial criticism

Demarai Gray has made a move from Everton to join Saudi Pro League team Al-Ettifaq. Although the transfer fee remains undisclosed, reports suggest that the 27-year-old Jamaican winger has transferred for £8 million on a four-year contract.
Gray had previously faced criticism from Everton manager Sean Dyche for what appeared to be social media criticism of his manager after a potential move to Fulham fell through. In an Instagram post on Thursday, Gray stated, "The truth is I gave my all to this club on and off the pitch." He went on to express his frustration, saying, "There has been a lot of speculation about my situation all summer. I was ready to play as much football as possible this season but it felt like this was not going to happen."
Dyche responded to Gray's comments by emphasizing that no transfers are approved without the club's final consent. He also noted that Gray had shown reluctance to train and be part of the team when the initial transfer didn't materialize. Gray had previously remarked, "it's so difficult to play for someone who don't show you respect as a person."
During the current season, Gray had not made any appearances for Everton and had also been linked with a potential move to Turkish club Besiktas before ultimately completing his transfer to Saudi Arabia. The Saudi transfer window closed on Thursday.
Since joining Everton in 2021, Gray made 67 Premier League appearances and scored nine goals. Al-Ettifaq is managed by former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and has recently signed notable players like England midfielder Jordan Henderson, former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, Scotland defender Jack Hendry, and former Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.
