Delta Queens FC of Asaba on Thursday proved bookmakers wrong in the 2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Match Day 6 after routing the highly fancied Robo Queens Football Club of Lagos 4-1 at the Steven Keshi International Stadium, Asaba.
The Coach Peter Dedevbo-led side entered the game as underdogs against their visitors, who were favored to leave the iconic Steven Keshi International Stadium with maximum points.
However, this dream was shattered after Coach Emmanuel Osahon's team suffered their biggest loss of the season, despite the pre-match ratings.
The game began in earnest with both sides chasing the opening goal, but poor defensive play from the visitors, as well as the profligacy of their strikers, saw the first half end in a draw.
The second half kicked off in a frenzy with Delta Queens switching tactics, leaving their visitors in limbo.
This tactical switch led to two quick goals in the 49th and 52nd minutes. Priscilla Omeje bundled home a rebounded shot off the crossbar, sending shockwaves down the spines of Robo Queens.
The visitors were still trying to settle into the second half when Goodness Ihioma slammed home a poorly cleared ball from 17 yards out, sending the fans at the Steven Keshi International Stadium into wild jubilation.
Robo Queens finally crumbled like a house of cards after Priscilla Omeje got her brace, converting a swift pass from Destiny Itobor with an angled shot that left the Robo Queens goalkeeper caught off guard.
The visitors, however, drew one back from the spot in the 87th minute after a Robo Queens player was upended inside the penalty area.
Not done with punishing their visitors, fleet-footed Destiny Itobor rounded off the scoring in the 90th minute after collecting a pass from midfield ace Dagogo before smashing in a shot that was initially blocked by the goalkeeper.
Speaking after the match, Delta Queens’ coach, Peter Dedevbo, lauded his players for their spirited display, saying they played according to instructions and urged them to sustain the tempo.
The former Falconets coach stated that the team aims to win all its matches as they have set their sights on qualifying for the Super 6 at the end of the season.
