Perhaps what will be on the mind of Ikorodu City FC coach, Nuruden Aweroro, is to seek revenge for the loss his team suffered at the hands of the defending champions, Rangers International FC, when both sides clash in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 22.
It is on record that during the dark days of the Oga Boys, the Flying Antelopes came to Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos and beat them 1-0 in the 2024/2025 NPFL Match Day 2 under the tutelage of Bright Osadegbe, while the current coach, Aweroro, was the assistant.
For Rangers International FC, they have not been performing well, especially against the big clubs at home, having lost about three home matches in the ongoing league season.
The last time Rangers played in Enugu, they suffered a disappointing defeat to Niger Tornadoes. They will now look to make amends when Ikorodu City visit on Sunday.
A 2-1 loss to El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri has increased Rangers’ urgency to return to winning ways.
Meanwhile, Ikorodu City, fresh off a 4-1 demolition of Kano Pillars on Matchday 21, will aim to continue their scoring form.
Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has urged his team to maintain their momentum and strengthen their title defense.
However, Ikorodu City will be no pushovers, as they boast the league’s highest goal tally (32), demonstrating their attacking prowess.
Head to Head
Both teams have only met once in the top flight, which ended 1-0 in favor of the Flying Antelopes in Lagos.
