Dante Vanzeir of the New York Red Bulls Was Disciplined by MLS for His Racial Slur During the San Jose Earthquakes Match

A collision between Vanzeir and Jeremy Ebobisse on Saturday night during the second half of Red Bulls' game against San Jose Earthquakes resulted in a fight and a 20-minute stoppage. Later, it was discovered that the Belgian international had called Ebobisse a racial epithet.
Vanzeir left the team till further notice after the player, the team, and head coach Gerhard Struber all apologized for the incident on Tuesday.
MLS suspended Vanzeir for six regular-season games on Thursday and imposed an undisclosed punishment. The striker will also be obliged to attend training and education courses stipulated by the League as well as a program promoting restorative practices.
In his comments on Tuesday, Vanzeir acknowledged that his behavior had been improper and agreed to "any suspension, fine and counselling handed down by Major League Soccer."
He further added: "I will use this opportunity to better myself, reflect and dedicate my time and efforts to work with organisations the tackle racial injustice.
The signing of Vanzeir was regarded as a little victory for the Red Bulls.
