Cyriel Dessers hopes for AFCON selection through Rangers performance

Rangers' standout player Cyriel Dessers expresses his desire to represent Nigeria once more in the upcoming African Cup of Nations in January, although this could lead to him missing several matches for his club.
Dessers, who has earned four caps for the Super Eagles, was on standby for the past couple of national team selections by manager Jose Peseiro but missed the final cut.
Since joining Rangers from Italian side Cremonese during the summer, the former Feyenoord star has already scored five goals for his new team.
Nigeria is grouped with Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau for the tournament, with their first game scheduled for January 14, coinciding with the Premiership's winter break. However, the Scottish Cup fourth round falls on January 20.
Considering Nigeria's status as one of the favorites to reach the tournament's final on February 11, Dessers could potentially miss key Rangers matches against St Mirren, Livingston, Aberdeen, and the Cup game.
Speaking in an interview in Belgium, Dessers explained, "I have been in the Nigeria pre-selection squad several times, but I never made the final selection.
Given the excellent form of the other strikers, I understand that. There is tough competition for the third or fourth striker position, and it ultimately comes down to form. The competition in Nigeria is intense.
I could have chosen to represent Belgium, but I'm very content with my decision. I've already experienced some incredible moments.
One of the most unforgettable moments was scoring my first international goal in front of a hundred thousand fans against Mexico in Dallas."
