Crystal Palace has confirmed that Roy Hodgson will continue as their manager for the 2023-24 season. The 75-year-old returned to the club in March, taking over from Patrick Vieira on a short-term deal. Hodgson successfully guided Palace away from the relegation zone, earning 18 points from his 10 games in charge and securing an 11th-place finish in the Premier League.
Expressing his delight, Hodgson stated that he is immensely pleased and proud to be staying at Palace. He highlighted the fantastic squad at the club, which includes a blend of talented young players and experienced individuals with Premier League and international experience. Hodgson discussed his ambitions with the chairman, Steve Parish, and they both agreed on targeting a top-half finish for the upcoming season.
Hodgson previously spent four years at Crystal Palace from 2017 before taking a break from football in the summer of 2021. He briefly managed Watford from January 2022, but left the club after their relegation to the Championship.
With a managerial career spanning over 45 years, Hodgson has held positions at various clubs including Inter Milan, Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, Liverpool, and West Brom. He has also managed the national teams of Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, and Finland.
The announcement of Hodgson's continuation as manager provides stability and continuity for Crystal Palace as they look forward to the upcoming season. The manager's experience and belief in the squad's potential are key factors in their aim to achieve a top-half finish, with the unwavering support of the passionate Palace supporters.
